I have been here for a month now. And we spent the first four weeks on the foundation course which cover leadership, adult education and community development. It was from my experience in the foundation course where I started to feel sense of belonging to the institute. The content and the nature of facilitation in this first half of the foundation course make me to feel the sense of belonging. Everything in this part focuses on self-awareness, self-discovery and understanding people. This model of learning is integral part in RENEW (education for self-awareness, self-discovery, personal transformation and community transformation.

This amazing feeling was followed by the greatest welcome ever. The Antigonish Council together with COADY International Institute Management organized a welcome event to all of us. This was the first experience for me to see the Mayor of the town and warden of the count attend a welcome celebration for the high learning students - it was a great honor. The best part of the event was featured by incredible speeches from the Mayor, Warden, Director of COADY, and Onegi Jenaro who provided heartwarming words of thanks on behalf of all of us. The music and dances from talented musician and dancers in Canada, makes me to wish you were here with us :)

So, far, I decided to do an independent study on transformation learning while I am here; to nurture my capacity in creating educational programs and advocating for education systems and structures that create space and opportunities for liberating education. In many parts of the world, formal education infrastructures do not help students to connect to their full sense of self, develop confidence in who they are, and realize what they want to do with their life because schools focus more on teaching academic information that meets the grading demands. In other words they focuses more on "What" and "how" to do things and forget about how to "be" how to be that person, how to be that change and bring change that way. I am in a group of people who believes personal transformation and community transformation requires self-awareness, self-love and self-discovery of the person or people who seek for that transformation. This study will enrich a new model of education that RENEW offer to young people around the world, but also it will be open to all education actors who are committed to revolutionize and add value to our education.

Discussing my "River of Life" with Wilson from Uganda, my fellow student at COADY. They asked all students to create our "River of Life" - in which we tell the story of our life and reflect on things we have passed through to get where we are now.
